Our Treatment Philosophy

Arcadia Clinic is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care for individuals struggling with eating disorders. We believe in harnessing the strengths of all members of the care team, including caregivers, to optimize the path towards recovery.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT is a cornerstone of our treatment approach, focusing on developing skills to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, and improve interpersonal relationships. Our DBT program integrates mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance to address the underlying emotional dysregulation often present in eating disorders.

  • Family-Based Therapy (FBT): We recognize the critical role of family support in the recovery process, particularly for adolescents and young adults. Daniella Feldman, LCSW is one of the few specialized FBT therapists in the region, and empowers families to take an active role in their loved one's treatment, providing education, support, and guidance in restoring healthy eating behaviors and improving family dynamics.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT–E): CBT-E is another essential component of our treatment approach, focusing on identifying and challenging maladaptive thoughts and behaviors related to food, body image, and self-esteem. CBT-E  equips clients with practical strategies to address distorted thinking patterns and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

  • Temperament Based Therapy with Support (TBT-S): We recognize that the same temperament traits that may contribute to the development of eating disorders can also be powerful assets in the recovery process. Biological traits such as perfectionism, anxiety, and sensitivity, which may have played a role in the onset of disordered eating behaviors, can be harnessed as strengths on the journey to recovery. Including family and support in the process is critical to the process.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on accepting thoughts and feelings without judgment while committing to actions aligned with personal values. It utilizes techniques such as mindfulness, cognitive diffusion, and values clarification to help individuals develop psychological flexibility. In the context of eating disorder care, ACT assists in addressing body image distortion, emotional regulation, values clarification, and relapse prevention. By fostering acceptance and commitment to change, ACT promotes long-term recovery from eating disorders by empowering individuals to manage difficult emotions, align their actions with their values, and build resilience against triggers for disordered eating

  • Nutritional Counseling: Our registered dietitians work collaboratively with clients to create individualized meal plans, address nutritional deficiencies, and promote healthy eating habits. We emphasize a renourishment approach, and work with our clients to get them to the point where they are able to listen to their body's hunger and fullness cues and make food choices based on nourishment and enjoyment.
